In some cases, specific areas of the mouth may not qualify for implants. This may be due to the amount of bone loss in the jaw or when the number of teeth to be replaced is too great to effectively be done with individual implants. In this case, Dr. Carbonaro often usually recommends hybrid dentures.
Over the years, hybrid dentures have acquired many different names. In fact, nearly 20 years ago, Dr. Carbonaro was placing implants for this type of denture. Originally called ‘fixed removable dentures’, most dental professionals currently refer to them as hybrid dentures or trademark versions such as “Hybridge Dentures”.
Hybrids combine the anchoring power of implants with the coverage of dentures. However, hybrids eliminate the negative aspects of dentures, including slippage, clacking, loss of taste, and other bothersome aspects. They also require only a few dental implants to secure the new teeth in place, thus allowing for faster recovery time, more comfort, and affixing the dentures to the jaw permanently. Since hybrids allow for a small space between the gum line and the dentures to help daily oral hygiene, Dr. Carbonaro recommends that his patients return after their procedure for regular cleanings.
Dr. Carbonaro is fully trained in treatment planning and placement of implants for hybrid dentures. For more information and to see if you qualify, please call the office for a consultation.
